Marvellous Meatless Meal

When Tofu is seasoned or marinated then cooked, it takes on another life creating a new taste sensation of its own.

SERVINGS  •  6
canola oil cooking spray
tofu, firm, cut into 1cm cubes300 g
curry powder, mild1 tbsp
paprika, smoked, ground1 tbsp
onion flakes, dried2 tbsp

  1. Preheat oven to 190°C / 375°F and line a baking tray with baking paper.

  2. Prior to cooking, wrap tofu in 4-5 sheets of thick absorbent paper. Place something heavy on top i.e. heavy metal based frying pan, cast iron pot for approx. 5-6 minutes which will help press out / remove excess moisture. Then unwrap the tofu and cut into small cubes.

  3. Place tofu into a large clip lock bag then add curry powder, paprika, onion flakes and season with salt. Shake gently to coat tofu. Spray a large non-stick frying pan with oil and heat over high heat. Once hot, add the seasoned tofu. Sauté for 4-5+ minutes, until a slight crust has formed on each side and has begun to turn golden-brown. You will need to flip the tofu cubes as they cook.

  4. Transfer tofu cubes onto the baking tray and bake for about 10+ minutes, or until the tofu has begun to dry out / crisp up. The longer it bakes, the more firmer it gets. Transfer baked tofu cubes onto a plate. Serve hot or cold.

  5. TCB Tips:

    - If you want the tofu to remain neutral in flavour, just crisp up and season with a little salt. Skip adding any extra seasoning.

    - I love adding new flavours and textures to dishes. Try adding my quick Crispy Baked Golden Tofu to any dish you'd like. Mix the tofu in with salads, steamed vegetables, stir-fries, soups, even curries, or as a meat substitute for any of your favourite dishes.
